GM's Cadillac unit has been for a while on the offensive, busy adding both updated and new models to its aging range. This week, it is the turn of the CT4 sport sedan to be shown, as a statement to the carmaker's plans for the future.
Built on the Cadillac RWD sedan architecture, the CT4 comes to the world with all-wheel drive on all models, a design meant to rob the competition of a decent amount of customers, a couple of innovative systems such as Super Cruise and, of course, turbocharged engines.

Design-wise the looks of the sedan are pretty much known, the new line having been already shown as the CT4-V earlier this year.

The new car is powered by choice of two engines, with displacements of 2.0- and 2.7-liters, both turbocharged. The former is linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the latter works together with a 10-speed, also automatic.

The smaller displacement engine develops 237 hp and 350 Nm of torque, making it the entry-level. The larger one is the same used on the CT4-V. But whereas on that version it develops 325 hp and 515 Nm, on the regular CT4 (the engine is fitted on the Premium Luxury model) the output is only 309 hp and 472 Nm of torque.

Like all the most recent Cadillacs, the CT4 too will deploy the Super Cruise system. Advertised by GM as “the world’s first true hands-free driver assistance feature,” it can be used to make the car drive itself, but only on limited-access freeways that are separated from opposing traffic and have already been mapped by General Motors.

The system takes over steering and collaborates with the Adaptive Cruise Control to keep the car in its lane and at the set speed, while keeping track of the driver’s awareness level.

As per GM, the 2020 Cadillac CT4 will become available for order later this year. Pricing information was not released.
