Here's the China-Only Cadillac ATS-L

As a general rule, the Chinese like plenty of legroom in the rear of their cars. That's why premium manufacturers such as Audi and BMW offer long wheelbase variants of the A4 and 3 Series in the world's biggest new car market. More recently, Caddy has joined the bandwagon with the ATS-L.

In essence, the Cadillac ATS-L is a normal ATS that's taken a little bit of Viagra. Side by side with its American brother, the China-only ATS-L boasts with 86-mm (3.38 inches) of extra wheelbase, increasing the overall length from 4,644-mm (182.8 inches) to 4,730-mm (186.2 inches). From the front three-quarter view, lengthening modifications don't mangle the look of the compact sedan as on other long wheelbase cars sold in China.

Slated to hit Chinese dealerships later in the year, the Cadillac ATS-L doesn't benefit from the wreathless badge as the imported ATS. Expected to carry a sticker price of ¥270,000 (which translates to 43,600 bucks at current exchange rates), the width of the ATS-L has been upped by 19-mm (0.74 inches) for a grand total of 1,824-mm (71,8 inches). Even the ride height is different from the normal ATS sedan, with the L sitting 6-mm (0.23 inches) lower to the ground, recording a total height of 1,421-mm (55.94 inches).

In terms of mechanical wizardry, the extended wheelbase version of the American compact executive sedan from Cadillac can be had with a 2-liter turbocharged gasoline mill that churns out 279 PS and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque, as well as a 3.6-liter V6 engine with 320 PS at its disposal. Either powerplant you go for, the only transmission available is a six-speed automatic.
