Cadillac Plans to Launch Nine New or Refreshed Models, Mostly Crossovers and SUVs

Now it's a good time to remember Sergio Marchionne's ambitious plans for the Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles, which implies launching a windfall of new models because his GM counterparts are aiming for a similar target.

We're talking about Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen, who gave some insight into how the brand's lineup will look like when their plans are completed.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Cadillacs range revision will be led by five new SUVs or crossovers by the end of the decade. Also, Caddy plans to build a new subcompact car and redesign three models that "straddle the line between compact and midsize cars".

Of course, such a plan needs two things: time and patience from those affected by it, because that's what you get when you decide to adopt a long-term strategy.

According to the same source, Cadillac's 2020 goals include 5% of the global luxury car market (1.6% increase from the 3.4% owned today) and sales of 500,000 units per year, almost double from what this year's sales figures are expected, at around 300,000 models.

From what we know so far, the first model in this long line is the Cadillac CT6, scheduled to debut later this year. After that, we'll most likely see the new XT5 crossover making an official appearance in early 2016, but this is the point where things become mysterious.

Of course, we could go on and speculate that Cadillac will come up with a flagship sedan that will give them a chance to break the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class German trio.

Again, this is not an easy task and Johan deNysschen didn't miss the opportunity to point out one of the problems waiting to be solved in the brand's backyard:

"The reality, particularly in the U.S. is that the quality of the Cadillac dealer network does significantly trail that of our competitors," said the official.
