Can Cadillac survive this luxury market with a flagship sedan that’s offered with front-wheel drive? We don’t think so, and neither does the automaker. Rumors of a new luxury flagship sedan have been circulating for a number of years now, and our curiosity was peaked by the Ciel concept. Long, low and lean, it was everything modern Cadillacs are not.
According to Autonews, Cadillac has already given the green light for the flagship to enter the development stages. The model is supposed to be part of GM’s plan to offer a rival in each segment occupied by the competition. So we could be looking at a BMW 7-Series or Mercedes S-Class adversary from America.
Cadillac’s future plans also include a coupe and convertible version of the ATS sedan for 2014, as well as a hybrid XTS. But before those arrive, a new generation CTS will rival the 5-Series.
