When the all-new Cadillac CTS was unveiled at the 2013 New York Auto Show, most of us agreed that the car’s most intriguing and spectacular exterior detail laid in its vertical LED headlights.
Fitted in both the headlamps and the foglights, the vertical LED bars gifted the CTS with a fresh and unique “face”. And Cadillac noticed the impact those lights had on the crowds, and decided to explain their little visual magic trick a little further.

According to the US automaker, each headlamp features 16 indirect fire LED lights, with eight LEDs beginning on the fender of the car and an additional eight LEDs continuing down the front bumper. The eight LED lights mounted on the front bumper are also used as turn indicators, thus eliminating additional lights for aesthetic purposes. Furthermore, the LEDs work as day-time running lights as well, while the main HID projectors act as both low and high beams.

“The CTS is the first Cadillac to combine DRL and turn signal under the same lens,” said Brian Smith, CTS exterior design manager. “Giving the HID projectors a dual purpose allowed us to shorten the front headlamps and give the CTS the most dramatic signature lighting of any Cadillac to date.”

Production of the 2014 Cadillac CTS will begin this fall in Lansing, Michigan.
