The Cadillac ELR has finally broken cover, via a set of official press photos, and we`re happy to report it looks every bit as stylish and good-looking as we`d hoped, staying true to the Converj concept, and keeping its overall shape untouched.
Riding on a modified version of the Volt extended-range hybrid’s platform, the ELR is front-wheel driven, and like the car it’s based on, its petrol engine doesn`t drive the front wheels, which are only driven by the electric motor.

Sadly, previous rumors of it ditching the 1.4-liter power generator engine have proved false, as the ELR retains the exact same engine found in the Volt. It also draws its juice for the electric motor, from a T-shaped lithium-ion cell, which is also very similar to that of the Volt.

Expect to see the ELR reach showrooms later this year, in the fall, and the full technical details are set to be revealed later today, or tomorrow. Still, there isn`t that much, technically-speaking, which Cadillac could surprise us with, but until then, enjoy the official photos, before we upload our own, taken on location at the 2013 North American International Auto Show.
