The work GM put into the Chevy Volt might not have panned out in a short amount of time, but sales have been steadily increasing, and soon, there will be another all-American, all-new EV with extended range on the market.
We are of course talking about the Cadillac ELR, which was unveiled before a large crowd at the 2013 NAIAS in Detroit. Just like the Volt, it uses an Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) system that comprises of an electric motor and a petrol-powered 1.4-liter power generator.

In pure EV mode, the car will go for 35 miles (56 km), thanks to its T-shaped 16.5 kWh lithium-ion battery located under the floor. But, if the gasoline motor kicks in, the range can be up to 300 miles (480 km).

What’s impressive about the ELR is that you can have this in combination with a full leather interior, with wood accents and an advanced CUE infotainment system.

“ELR is an unprecedented combination of luxury, advanced engineering and progressive design in a coupe that is both sporty and environmentally friendly,” said Bob Ferguson, Cadillac global vice president. “This is a pivotal moment in Cadillac’s history, as we continue our product-driven expansion.”
