Cadillac CTS Gets 2012 Model Year... Grille

An old saying goes something like this: if something works, don't change anything. And if there is one Cadillac that works, then that's the CTS, a high-performance luxury model that has managed to reignite the passion for such vehicles.

But, as with any other things in this life, a little, subtle change from time to time is just what the doctor prescribed. In CTS' case, the GM doctor prescribed a tiny little facelift, that translates into a new grille for the car.

Now, of course, that's not the real news in this story. The real news is that the CTS will get, for the 2012 model year, an upgraded V6 engine and a new Touring Package edition. For some reason, however, GM decided those upgrades are not as important as the grille, so the car maker goes on and on, for the better part of their announcement, describing the premium finishes for mesh and frame.

Anyway, grille aside, the upgraded engine brings with it a few extra horses, 14, to be more precise, for a total of 318 horsepower. Torque levels have also been tampered with, the new unit providing 372 Nm instead of the 370 the previous version did.

The Touring Package edition will bring to the CTS range a few unique features, which include an even more extraordinary grille, with a dark finish, as well as metal pedals, dark Sapele wood interior trim and sueded seat inserts, steering wheel and shift knob.

“CTS has established itself as a world-class line of luxury sports cars, but to remain on top, we have to continually make improvements,” said Don Butler, vice president of Cadillac marketing. “The changes for the 2012 model year give customers a fresh take on the CTS’s bold front grille and provide enhanced driving performance without sacrificing fuel economy.”

For the time being, GM is tight lipped when it comes to the prices. We reckon, however, that such a great new grille will add a few more bucks to the MSRP.
