Cadillac Converj to Enter Production

The painful birth of the Cadillac Converj entered a new chapter today, as rumors claim that, following the "we'll do it - we'll not do it" GM dilemma, the American manufacturer seems to have made up its mind about the Converj.

According to a Detnews report, the extended-range electric limousine, which will use the same basic technology as the Volt, was included into a Cadillac development plan presented within GM.

Earlier this year, before the hot summer-bankruptcy days, GM saw no way the Converj could be built. With basically no money for it, GM nearly scrapped the program.

Now, the good-old GM is back, doing what it does best. Using the technology already developed for the Volt and by pumping some money into a new body, Cadillac's Volt interpretation may take only a couple of years to reach the market. After all, as Jim Hall, auto analyst for 2953 Analytics says, "you can charge more for a Caddy than a Chevrolet." Even if they are basically the same.

Haven't we seen this approach already?

Either way, chances are the Converj is coming, as GM is slowly crawling back to its old habits and plans (remember how the Opel deal turned out). When it will arrive, it will likely come with a lithium-ion battery and 1.4l four cylinder engine combination. Chances are it will be a two-door coupe, most likely in a bigger, yet proportional size than the concept.
