Which is better between a Porsche 911 with the dual-clutch transmission and the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray with the Z51 Performance Package? UK's Autocar couldn’t make up its mind because the mid-engine sports car from Kentucky is pretty damn impressive by European standards.
“I wouldn’t say it’s better or worse than a 911 because it’s a very different car.” Those are the words of editor-at-large Matt Prior, who knows a thing or two about corner carvers thanks to a couple of decades in this business. “I think they do the same thing in slightly different ways,” and in my honest opinion, that’s the highest praise the Corvette has ever received to this day.

There is, however, a glaring quirk that Matt has failed to highlight in the following video. At the 1:45 mark, you can clearly tell how bad the stitching is on the passenger side. In addition to being uneven, the double stitching doesn’t even line up with that on the center console. Then again, General Motors will never hold a candle to Porsche when it comes to quality control.

An issue that Matt did highlight is the driving position, which reminds him of the Ford GT. The 911, by comparison, feels more like a grand tourer with a sporty setup, the kind of car you want to drive over long distances. On the upside, the Corvette features “a pretty business-like cabin, makes a good noise, and this dual-clutch transmission is really quick and really smooth.”

Described as a real bargain at home in the United States where the 1LT Coupe retails at $59,995, the Stingray for the United Kingdom is a bit on the expensive side of powerful sports cars. You see, pricing in this part of the world kicks off at £95,000 ($129,000 in U.S. currency) before the dealer makes any money on the car.

Oh, and by the way, a fully-loaded C8 costs as much as £130,000. Let that sink in for a minute or thereabouts, then remember what the equivalent of $176,365 at the current exchange rates will get you from the Porsche lineup.

The question is, would you get a 'Vette or a 911 for this money?
