As you’re well aware, Chevy has taken away the high wing from the 2020 model year Corvette over a supplier issue. It remains to be seen if the option will be brought back before or after the 2021 model enters production, but nevertheless, customers can resort to the aftermarket for a similar piece of aero hardware.
Enter the ACS Composite “C8 High Wing Spoiler” at $1,199 including shipping, available in no fewer than five colors. Carbon Flash opens the list, followed by Black, Torch Red, Arctic White, as well as Shadow Gray at no additional cost.
The company says that this wing will give you “all the traction you need when taking off,” which is a bit wrong considering that no downforce is produced at zero miles per hour. “No drilling required unless no spoiler was previously installed,” the ACS Composite unit is designed to mount to the Corvette’s existing holes.
That’s not all, though. Visible carbon fiber is also available either as standalone parts or as the Ground Effects Package, which is currently available for pre-order at $6,098. Chevrolet dropped the RPO code 5VM kit in February 2020 over… wait for it… supplier issues as well. Chevrolet’s OEM version used to retail at $4,850.
ACS Composite’s package is a bolt-on upgrade made from pre-preg carbon fiber that features rear winglets on the ends of the side skirts to improve the airflow. Of course, the splitter is a must-have for the side skirts to work on the C8 Corvette.
In terms of weight, both the high wing and the 5VM from ACS Composite are shipped in 72x24x5 packages that tip the scales at 15 pounds (6.8 kilograms). Unfortunately, the company doesn’t mention any weight savings for the 5VM.
Speaking of the eighth-generation sports car, the 2021 model year order books should open in late July while production is scheduled to start at the beginning of November. Don’t get your hopes up for the Z06, however, because the flat-plane crankshaft V8-engined performance version has been pushed back by Chevy.
