C8 Corvette Drag Races C7 Grand Sport, the Gap Is Massive

The mid-engined layout of the C8 Chevrolet Corvette doesn't just improve the handling and boost the number of heads the Chevy turns at car meets, but also helps the car take off quicker. How much quicker? Well, the drag race we have here, which sees a C8 battling a C7 Corvette Gran Sport, aims to answer that question.

Truth be told, if you're going to choose an above-base C7 model to race a C8, the Grand Sport isn't your best bet, since it mixes the widebody approach of the Z06 with the base LT1 engine of the Stingray (think: 460 hp and 465 lb-ft of twist), thus being focused on handling.

Nevertheless, as explained by YouTuber JMC RIDES, who drives the midship model, the aficionado does plan to duke it out with the 650 hp C7 Z06, with this battle against the C7 GS being an intermediary step.

While the LT2 heart of the C8 is based on the LT1, even sharing the 6.2-liter displacement, it delivers 495 hp and 470 lb-ft (this example comes with the optional performance exhaust).

Sure, the Grand Sport we have here packs the eight-speed automatic, which shifts quicker than the six-speed manual, but still can't match the dual-clutch tranny of the C8 Stingray.

The two 'Vettes duked it out on the street and while most battles of the sort stick to rolling starts, this one also involves standing takeoffs. Oh, and in case you're wondering, the GS comes with 335-section rear tires, while the C8 Stingray uses 315-section rubber - please don't use such stunts as an example and visit the drag strip when you feel it's time for racing, so you can stay on the safe side.

In fact, the two drivers were involved in multiple scenarios, all with the aim of giving each machine a fair chance, as you'll notice in the clip below.
