C8 Chevy Corvette Has AWD and Front Engine, Turns Urus-Rivaling “Super-SUV”

According to Lamborghini, its Urus mid-size luxury crossover is the “first Super Sport Utility Vehicle” in the world. One that has expertly combined the cool delicacies of a sports car with the inherent practicality of an SUV.

Right now, there are many ultra-luxury SUVs out there, but Lambo’s Urus dwells inside a newly minted niche of purpose-built performance that has neatly created all for himself. Sure, there are many rivals out there, from the ubiquitous BMW X6 M coupe-SUV to the stylish Aston Martin DBX.

But let’s face it, none of them was cooked up as a supercar in stilts from the get-go. Surely enough, the Lamborghini won’t be alone for long and sooner or later an automaker will dare take the challenge of envisioning a direct rival. Naturally, all rumor mill thoughts are directed towards the upcoming Ferrari Purosangue, but virtual artists seem to believe there’s even more competition coming.

For example, the pixel master behind the SRK Designs channel on YouTube has envisioned another interesting mashup. It’s one that casually mixes the C8 Chevy Corvette design with the body of the only Super-SUV out there, Lamborghini’s Urus. Of course, it doesn’t seem to opt for an implausible mid-engine setup, so the C8 Corvette actively reverts to a front-engine philosophy.

Anyone who is actively following the exploits of the successful mid-engine C8 reinvention knows very well that Chevrolet is entirely focused on the 2023 Corvette Z06. So, that can only mean any rumors about a possible SUV variant need to wait a while longer for official confirmation. Perhaps it will come soon after the Chevy team also introduces the hybrid C8 Corvette E-Ray... or perhaps not.

One thing is for sure, even if they don’t use the rumored all-electric powertrain from the Ultium family to give Ford’s Mustang Mach-E a run for its zero-emissions money, the designers won’t base their styling on the Lambo Urus. Unlike this CGI expert, who blatantly took the Italian super-SUV as the base for this C8 Corvette SUV digital project.

Now, the result looks far enough from the starting point to hold its own, with all the strong C8 character lines present and accounted for. But it still begs the question: do we even like the idea of a five-door, 2+2 Corvette with AWD and a ride height that’s going to shame every ancestor when trying to run down a famed track such as, let’s say, Willow Springs?
