C7 ZR1 Gets the Lego Technic Treatment, Priced At $50

At least for the time being, the C7 ZR1 is the fastest, more powerful Corvette money can buy. And boy, does it cost a lot! The cheapest example of the breed retails at $123,000, and with all the options ticked off the list, you’re looking in the ballpark of $156,000 for the LT5-engined land missile.

Chevrolet calls the C7 ZR1 a “supercar” for all the right reasons, starting with the handling-centric suspension, high-performance tires, 755 horsepower, and 715 pound-feet of torque. Add to those an insane amount of aerodynamic trickery, and the specialness of this Corvette becomes crystal clear.

Being the ultimate expression of the Corvette, Lego couldn’t help themselves but offer a C7 ZR1 of their own. Priced at $50 and coming in January 2019, the set “comes with an authentic orange and black color scheme, black spoked rims with low-profile tires, a large rear wing, and four tailpipes.”

Add to that a “working steering and detailed V8 engine with moving pistons,” and that would be the ticket to hours of immersive fun. Suitable for nine-year-olds and above, the C7 ZR1 by Lego Technic can also be converted into a hot rod.

From 11 inches (29 centimeters) in length, the C7 ZR1 measures 9 inches (23 centimeters) as a hot rod. The 579-piece set joins the likes of the Bugatti Chiron and Volvo Concept Wheel Loader Zeux among many more Technic models, including the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

On a related note, the Corvette will be redesigned from the ground up for the 2020 model year. The C8 with its mid-engine configuration will debut in the summer of 2019, and three powertrain options are expected from the newcomer.

It’s understood the transmission will come in the guise of a dual-clutch, and based on a patent filing with the USPTO, power swinging doors could be offered as well. Later on, the hybridized V8 with twin-turbo technology is expected to offer up to 1,000 horsepower on full song, rendering the EcoBoost V6-engined Ford GT irrelevant.
