C63 AMG Smokes an Audi R8 from the Stop Light

The impromptu race takes place somewhere in Berlin and, though no illegal speeds seem to be reached, it isn't something we would recommend to do on a car-filled street in the middle of a busy city.

So, in the Audi corner we have what looks like the V8-version of the R8, while in the Mercedes-Benz corner sits a Polar White C63 AMG facelift, both waiting for the color change at a traffic light.

As soon as the light turns green, both cars gun it for about one hundred meters (328 feet), until they catch on with the traffic ahead and the drivers have to hit the brakes.

Even though the C63 AMG is expected to win a drag race with an R8 V8 on paper as well, with the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration taking 4.4 seconds versus the Audi's 4.6 seconds, the start should be advantageous to the quattro's better traction.

As you will see in the video, both cars start at pretty much the same time but the R8 is slower even off the line. There could be plenty of reasons for that, though.

Maybe the C63 is with the Performance Package - which shaves another 0.1 seconds from the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration – maybe the R8 was a manual and its driver was too scared of burning the clutch or maybe the Audi's tires were on some less-sticky patch of asphalt. Whatever the reason, the AMG wins the tiny drag race, and the soundtrack accompanying it is as awesome as always.
