With the legendary M156/M159 family of naturally-aspirated V8 engines heading into the legendary V8 engines graveyard as soon as the SLS AMG production will come to a halt in 2014, the nutters from AMG are hard at work developing its replacement.
Internally codenamed M177 or M178, depending on its version, the new engine is said to be a twin-turbocharged, four-liter V8 that was developed by bonding two M133 four-cylinder engines from the A 45, CLA 45 and GLA 45 AMG together.
Designed mainly with the scope of improving fuel consumption, the new eight-cylinder will find itself powering quite a lot different Mercedes-Benz AMG models in the upcoming years, with the first car to make use of its credentials being the upcoming AMG GT (C190), followed shortly by the new C 63 AMG W205 at the end of 2014.
For those who are still debating the amount of power and torque that the new M177 will have in the new C-Class top model, AMG boss Tobias Moers has nothing but soothing words.
“You are now familiar with our 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine? Well you can imagine what happens when you put two of those together,” he was recently quoted by Auto Express.
All we have to do now is sit down and wait calmly for the new C 63 AMG, which should most-likely arrive at the 2014 Paris Motor Show this Autumn.
