It is still strange to us how the EV craze hasn’t caught on with city transportation services. Trolley buses are old fashioned and quite cumbersome and battery technology has advanced enough to make an all-electric bus as an economically and technically viable solution.
Surprisingly or not, it’s the Chinese manufacturer BYD who will be supplying some of the world’s first all-electric buses, and it’s delivering 10 of them to the Canadian town of Windsor, Ontario. The BYD eBUS0-12 has a maximum range of 300km (186 miles) on a single charge and can be recharged in as little as 30 minutes, using the BYD 600-kilowatt fast charging system.
We hope that these electric buses finally catch on and replace their diesel powered counterparts, as buses, even modern ones, still pollute too much to make them ecologically viable in cities, despite their widespread use.
