Chinese automaker BYD has just announced that it will be building a new factory in Bulgaria, after having signed a joint-venture partnership agreement with a local company. The new plant will reportedly make electric vehicles (cars and buses), as well as conventional cars.
All-electric buses will be manufactured at a rate of 40 to 60 units per month, once the plant is operational, in February of next year. As the business progresses, they will begin to insource more of the parts, and manufacture them locally, or directly at the plant (the battery packs, and LED lights).

Also, considering the fact that Bulgaria is a member of the European Union, the vehicles built at the new plant will proudly bear the ‘made in EU’ tag, which will undoubtedly aid in their sales success. This plant is now the second one to be opened by a Chinese automaker, in Bulgaria, following Great Wall Motor’s new assembly plant, which entered operational status in February of this year.
