BYD has recently hit a bit of a rough spot, with sales and revenues going down dramatically, as well as the bad publicity associated with one of their EVs catching fire - was proven that its batteries were not the cause, so its name was cleared on that account.
Now, the Chinese manufacturer has sold three of its E6 all-electric cars to a Thai utility company which supplies electricity to Bangkok, trying to popularize EVs in the country, called MEA. Since the Thai auto industry was severely affected by last year’s massive floods (which killed 800 people) - it was the 12th largest manufacturer of automobiles in the world, with an output of 1.6-million units in 2010.

BYD has managed to sell some 200 of its E6 EVs, many of which are being used/tested as taxis in Shenzhen, China where they seem to be doing an excellent job. The final plan is to bring BYD EVs into the US, but the Chinese manufacturer has been postponing the move for a while, despite announcing its intentions very clearly.
