There are a couple of notable things the E92 M3 wrote in BMW’s history but to most customers they don’t make a big difference in the buying decision. What does, however, is whether they will love or hate the car once they bought it.
The E92 M3 is an iconic model for a number of reasons. First of all, it’s the first model that had a different codename from the rest of the body variations. There was the E90 M3 Sedan, the E92 M3 Coupe and the E93 M3 Convertible. The 3 Series also had the E91 Touring versions available, but that was never offered as an M car.

Although it was never confirmed, sources claim that BMW wanted to use different codenames for the M cars for the first time on the previous generation, and that’s why the change in approach. However, they backed down at the last moment and left things at this point.

Then there’s the engine. The S65 4-liter V8 under the bonnet is not only derived from the legendary S85 5-liter V10, but it’s also the only V8 ever fitted to an M3. On top of that, it became the last naturally aspirated engine to go out of production at BMW, the last car equipped with an atmospheric engine from Bavaria being the M3 Convertible back in late 2013. Ever since that model went out of production, the range of mills the Munich-based manufacturer is offering is comprised of only turbocharged plants.

So, it looks like a piece of history, right? With the prices slightly dropping these days, it might seem like a sound investment. As a matter of fact, we can tell you that this is truly a good future investment as all the things we mentioned above will turn the E9x M3 models into collectibles (not to mention that this was the last generation actually to offer an ‘M3 Coupe’, it being replaced by the M4 these days).

However, according to the guys from Vehicle Virgins, such a move will ruin your life. No, it has nothing to do with the fuel consumption or the failing parts but more with the lifestyle choices you’ll be making later on. Check it out!
