Button Will Not Push for Title at Suzuka

Jenson Button denied that he'll give it a title effort at Suzuka this weekend, in order to secure the 2009 championship ahead of teammate Rubens Barrichello. Even if the Briton knows the following race after the Japanese Grand Prix will be a tough nut to crack – as it will be held in Barrichello's backyard, at Interlagos – he insisted he'll focus on scoring points rather than finish ahead of the Brazilian driver.

Button needs to finish 4th or higher in the following 3 races in order to secure his maiden F1 title of career, in the event of Rubens Barrichello winning all of them. On the other hand, should the 29-year old Brit finish 5 points or better ahead of his teammate in Japan, he would already be crowned the new Formula One champ. 15 points are currently separating the two Brawn GP drivers in the overall classification.

People say that if I finish five points in front of Rubens I can win the championship. I know that's a fact, for sure. But my aim is to win the world championship and I'm not going to take any unusual risks. I'm just going to drive like I have been and hopefully that will be enough,” said Button, prior to this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix.

Heading to Suzuka, Button did nothing but to echo the feelings of almost every driver in the Formula One field, as he is looking forward to returning to one of the more spectacular tracks in F1's history.

I love it. I think everyone loves Suzuka, and that's the problem. I wish they didn't. But it's a circuit I've enjoyed in the past and where I've gone well, so it's nice to be back there,” said Button, who'll be hoping to recover from the poor Singapore Grand Prix in Japan.

It was not my best day or as a team it wasn't our best day, so to come away with four points, and lost one point to Vettel and lose one to Rubens I feel like it was a positive weekend, for sure. Going to Japan I'm very positive and looking forward to a good weekend,” concluded the championship leader.
