Button: We Don't Need Schumacher!

British driver Jenson Button insisted he doesn't need the support of 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher to win the F1 title this year. His comments appeared only days after several rumors announced a potential move of Schumacher from the Ferrari pit wall to Brawn GP's.

The German ace was present at the Ferrari pit wall as technical advisor during the first two races of 2009 – Australia and Malaysia – but the media started building on his good relationship with former Ferrari “partner” Ross Brawn. So Schumacher was linked with a future move to Brawn GP, aimed at bringing the F1 title to Brackley this year.

However, talking to British newspaper The Mirror, championship leader and clear favorite for this year's title Button insisted he does not need the help of Schumacher to become world champion. And the results so far – in 2009 – prove that Brawn GP can do great without a former world champion telling them how to race.

“We don't need help from another driver. We all know how to win races and Championships even though this is obviously a different level. We have been around long enough to know what it takes to win. If he was there every weekend trying to tell what to do it would never work because you do things differently and it might be as good or better but you find your own route,” said Button, according to the aforementioned source.

Schumacher's decision making suffered a blow this weekend, as the former Ferrari champion is believed to be behind Kimi Raikkonen's poor tire strategy at Sepang. The Fin's car was fitted with wet tires, even though the track was completely dry. When the rain finally came (laps later), Raikkonen's tires were ruined, causing him to make an additional pit stop for new tires. The mistake caused the 2007 world champion to finish on a poor 14th place on Sunday.

Although the news was not confirmed by either team principal Stefano Domenicali or Schumacher, it wasn't denied either. Both officials insisted these matters are part of the “private” area and it should stay that way no matter the consequences.
