While Rubens Barrichello's status at Brawn GP for 2010 is yet to be determined, championship leader Jenson Button is set to stay at Backley for another season. Although the British team did not make any official announcement on their future drivers lineup next year, a source within the team hinted that the 29-year old Brit has agreed not to leave the outfit in 2010.
“We've been told by Ross Brawn that Jenson is staying and that's that,” a source from within the Brackley organization told the media, according to a report from the GMM news agency.
In addition, the fact that Button's manager Richard Goddard is not in talks with any other team for a 2010 racing seat is also evidence enough that the probable world champion is happy with his stay at Brawn.
Prior to the 2009 season, the Brit agreed to a 50% cut of his salary, in an effort to cut expenditures to a minimum and save the team from F1 closure. He also agreed to a one-year contract with the team, as he didn't know how Brawn GP will evolve throughout the 2009 season.
However, in recent weeks, several reports suggested that Button is urging Ross Brawn to pay him a salary worth of a Formula One champion – in case he does win the championship this year – in 2010. Being that the team is currently struggling financially in the series, the only chance Button will actually see that money would be for Mercedes to step in and partner Brawn in 2010.
Until all of these rumors will be confirmed, the speculation will go on about Jenson Button's future teammate also. Nico Rosberg is the most likely candidate for the job, as Brawn and Williams are expected to trade drivers – Rosberg for Barrichello – shortly after the Abu Dhabi season finale.
