Button Sets Personal Record in London Triathlon

His winning days in Formula One might be over for the remainder of the 2009 season – not that we're picky or anything, but it just seems Brawn GP have lost their momentum in the first part of the season – but Jenson Button is sure improving himself outside of Formula One.

The 29-year old Brit bettered his personal record in the London Triathlon the past weekend, stopping the clock at two hours, seven minutes and two seconds over the Olympic distance in the English capital. For those of you who aren't familiar with the event, it means Jenson had to swim for 1.5 km, ride a bike for 40 km and run for an additional 10 km.

Even though one would expect Jenson to be simply devastated by effort after the London event, the Brawn GP driver hailed his experience the past weekend as his “best ever”. As expected, the London Triathlon was held for charity purposes. Jenson was only one of the 10,000 people who took part in the event, with the overall charity raised at over 3 million pounds (sterling).

“I had to wake up at 4am to get here this morning and I loved it - it has been my best ever Sunday morning. I enjoyed it today, it's such an amazing event, it's so big and it's great that triathlon is doing so well in the UK. I hope that its growth continues,” said Button, as reported by British magazine Autosport.

This is Button's second presence in an international triathlon event, as he previously contested in the Windsor Triathlon in the summer of 2008. He then crossed the finish line in 117th place out of 1700 entrants, setting a time of 2 hours, 22 minutes and 43 seconds, more than 7 minutes better than his initial target time.
