Button Pulls Out of Triathlon to Prepare for British GP

The fact that Jenson Button prices his home grand prix the most from all the races in the Formula One calendar is no news. In yet another attempt to make that clear enough for everybody, the Brawn GP driver and solitary leader of the 2009 F1 championship decided to pull out from his scheduled Nokia Windsor Triathlon (England) last weekend to prepare solely for the upcoming race at Silverstone.

As confirmed by a Brawn GP team spokesperson the other day, the 29-year old Brit did not want to risk a potential injury during the aforementioned event only one week before the British Grand Prix.

He wasn't comfortable that it was quite so close. There seemed too great a risk of him sustaining an injury and there wouldn't be time to get fixed before the grand prix,” said the spokesperson, who also confirmed Button will take place in the August-scheduled London Triathlon.

With the Formula One caravan visiting the Silverstone venues for the last time as host of the British Grand Prix, this will be Button's last chance of squeezing a win before his home crowd. The Brawn GP driver has so far won 6 of the first 7 grands prix in 2009, and will set a new F1 winning record if taking the chequered flag at Silverstone also.

The British Grand Prix is always an amazing weekend and I can't wait to race at Silverstone in front of our home fans on Sunday. To be leading the championship going into my home grand prix is something that I've never experienced before and it puts a smile on my face every time I think about it,” said Button in a preview for the British GP.

I've raced at Silverstone from some fairly tough positions in the past but the fans have always been so supportive and I'd love to give them a performance that they can really enjoy this weekend. If we come away with a good result, I'll be so happy on Sunday!” added the British driver.
