Button Not Happy with McLaren's Balance in Sepang

Following an enthusiastic performance in Melbourne, Jenson Button really struggled during the first couple of practice sessions of the Malaysian Grand Prix on Friday, despite setting some decent lap times in both the 90-minute episodes of running.

If P1 in the morning was tackled on hard compound tires and most of the teams focused on heavy-fuel running, the action in the afternoon saw the majority of the drivers trying on the option tires for Sepang (soft compound from Bridgestone). Here is where it all began to get tricky for the reigning world champion, as the 30-year old Brit struggled with his MP4-25's balance all afternoon.

I haven't really got to grips with the car round here, I really struggled with the balance and I haven't found something I like. Very twitchy rear end and I just can't deal with it at the moment so we've been working with that. Eventually, towards the end of practice, I started feeling better but there's still a long way to go before I'm happy, so it will be a long night tonight,” said Button after the Friday practice action.

Button actually told his team, via radio, about the tricky balance with his car in the late stages of the second practice session, complaining with understeering and poor rear stability.

Shortly after his teammate Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time of the day, he also told his mechanics that his car is lacking grip on the Sepang track (wheelspin was also an issue). Additionally, the majority of the drivers testing the optional compound on Friday issued the same worries on the soft tires' poor reaction to the Malaysian track.
