Button: I'm the Greatest Driver in F1 History

Modesty away, Jenson Button has no doubts about who the greatest F1 races in history is. Currently leading the overall classification after scoring 6 wins in the first 8 races of the season, the 29-year old Brit believes there is nobody in the history of the sport that can top him.

Asked by the GQ Magazine – in its August edition – who he believes the greatest driver of all times is, Button named himself.

Me, I'm the best,” Button is quoted as saying. Now, we're not really sure if he really means it or he partially joked about it, as the interview was not caught on tape. Either way, his comments are expected to stir quite a debate in the British media soon enough.

Him being the best would mean reigning champion Lewis Hamilton was not in the same league. Talking about his fellow countryman, Button thanked the McLaren driver for getting all the attention in recent years, while leaving the Honda man with enough space to help develop a title winning car for 2009.

“(...) Him winning was great for the sport and good for me because I was able to get my head down without much attention and get a great car sorted out. I didn't have to worry about people writing rubbish about me because Lewis was getting it all,” added the Brawn GP driver.

However, Button admitted he feels strong about Lewis' coming off well after his disappointing performances this season, as he has been in his shoes in recent years, when driving for Honda. Being a lap down to the leaders constantly has made him a stronger racer, and he believes that's exactly what will happen to Hamilton as well.
