Button Happy for Webber's Win

Although he struggled all day during the German Grand Prix last Sunday to squeeze a good result for his 2009 campaign championship leader Jenson Button crossed the chequered flag in 5th place. Nevertheless, he admitted he will not walk away from the German track totally disappointed, as he reckoned Webber's win was actually good news for him.

Apart from the fact that Vettel recuperated only 4 points in the title fight during the course of the German weekend, Webber's win means the two Red Bull drivers will battle each other in the championship, rather than support a single effort in the title fight.

My championship lead has stayed the same, although it's over a different person now. It's quite good Mark won because Vettel's now got him right behind him and they'll be taking points off each other. If Vettel had won, it would have been a disaster,” said Button after the Nurburgring race.

Coming to Germany with a 23-point advantage over teammate Rubens Barrichello, Button now leads the overall classification from Sebastian Vettel by 21 points, while 22.5 points ahead of 3rd placed Webber.

Responding to his comments was the very German GP winner and close friend Mark Webber, who argued that his team might not have to turn to a leading driver in the late stages of 2009 is the Brawns continue their slump in the championship.

It's a good problem for us to have at Red Bull,” said Webber, regarding the lack-of-favoritism claims made by Button. “It's very difficult to call how the races are going to be. Maybe in the end, the last three or four or five races it will turn to one of us if we have a chance to fight Jenson, but the last two races have been interesting for them.
