Button Burned Left Buttock during Bahrain GP

Winning the Bahrain Grand Prix this weekend did not come painless for Brawn GP's Jenson Button. The Englishman had to pay tribute to some incredibly hot temperatures in his BGP 001 cockpit and admitted, at the post-race press conference, that he suffered a minor injury on his... left buttock!

I've burned the top of my left buttock on a box – there's an electrical box there,” explained the worthy winner after crossing the finish line.

It was a well-known fact – confirmed by Ross Brawn himself, ahead of the Bahrain weekend – that the BGP 001 was not expected to behave very well under the hot conditions at the Sakhir International Circuit. In order to make sure the car would cope with the weather conditions, the Brackley-based team allegedly proceeded to cut holes into the bodywork for better ventilation.

Button was the driver to actually feel the impact of the new changes, as he was forced to cope with the temperatures himself in order to stay in the race. Runner-up Sebastian Vettel felt for the British driver and stroked Button's shoulder at the post-race conference, wanting to show his “compassion”.

The Brawn GP responded quickly enough: “I'll get you stroking it later, Sebastian, don't worry!”.

Button's win at Sakhir is even more valuable under these condition, as the British driver managed to extend his lead in the overall classification to teammate Rubens Barrichello to 12 points. As compared to the Brazilian driver, Button took on a 2-pit strategy and eventually won the race by a comfortable 7-second margin.
