Button: "2010 Deal Is Irrelevant at the Moment"

Jenson Button insisted that he is solely focused on winning as many races as possible and bring his 2009 campaign to a successful end, and only afterwards he will start thinking of a 2010 deal inside Formula One. The latest rumors regarding Button's potential contract for the upcoming season involved a whopping 10 million euros per season, as reported by British media.

Brawn GP's CEO Nick Fry was the first member of the Brackley based team to suggest that Button's rating has definitely gone up thanks to his 5 wins this season (so far), while revealing he and Ross Brawn will certainly try to keep the British driver until his end of his racing career.

Before the start of the season, Button committed to a pay cut of almost 50%, given the financial status of the team at that particular moment. He than made it very clear that he's not in Formula One for the money and is willing to do anything to help his team secure a racing spot in 2009. Soon after he made that decision, Brawn proceeded to a management buy-out from Honda and the team was ready to race.

Coming to Turkey earlier this week, Button reiterated his desire to only think about racing, leaving the contractual discussions for the late stages of the season.

I don't want to talk about anything that is irrelevant at the moment. I am very happy, all I think about is racing,” said Button, talking to the media ahead of the Istanbul race.

I haven't spoken to anyone in the team about it because I'm not interested. I'm here to race. I don't want to talk about money. I continued with this team because I thought the car would be competitive, and that's my only interest at the moment,” added the Brawn GP driver.

Button is currently leading the overall classification by a massive 16 points to teammate Rubens Barrichello (after only 6 rounds), winning a whopping 5 races so far in the series.
