Bus Literally Obliterates the First Two Cars in a Highway Traffic Jam

The main thing that makes highways great is that cars can drive reasonably fast, which also happens to be their biggest drawback. Getting from one place to another as quickly as possible is wonderful, but when things go wrong, speed can only make them worse.

That's why playing by the rules is even more important of the highway. Minor things like using the indicator, overtaking on the left side, lane discipline, maintaining a constant speed and cruising close to the speed limit are key to sustaining a fluent flow of cars. But with so many vehicles on the road at the same time, it's enough for just one of them to mess it up, and the effects can ripple from car to car over miles.

So, yeah, it's very important not to mess up. Luckily, it's very easy not to do it, but sometimes people still manage to find a way. Be it an honest breakdown or just a brake check in response to tailgating that propagates down the lane, turning into a full stop at some point, you can rely on drivers to make even the simplest of things seem complicated.

Unfortunately, these seemingly trivial aspects can sometimes lead to tragedies. The accident you can see below happened in South Korea on the Seoul-bound side of the Yeongdong Expressway, just before the entrance to a tunnel. While the dashcam footage doesn't show anything graphic, it doesn't take much to realize the occupants of the first two cars stopped in the second lane (the Kia and the Audi) had no chance of escaping alive, so be advised.

Reports say that four people lost their lives following the incident, and 16 were injured, but they don't specify what vehicles they were in. It would appear the cause of the accident was the bus driver falling asleep, which would explain why he made absolutely no effort to hit the brakes. The cam car knew one of the most important safety rules when driving on the highway, which is never to stand still anywhere except the hard shoulder. Also, if you absolutely must sit at the end of the line of cars, always check the mirrors: if there's anything "interesting" about to happen, it's definitely coming from behind.

Once again, be warned that even though there are no graphic images, the video does show a very violent impact that resulted in four dead and 16 injured.
