Bus Driver Goes Way Beyond the Call of Duty to Help Disabled Passenger

If you’re running low on faith in humanity, here’s a video that might restore some of it. Mike, a bus driver for San Antonio Via, is a modern-day hero, the kind that doesn’t wear a cape or tights, can’t fly or shoot lasers out of his eyes, but is all heart.

This happened on July 19 in San Antonio, Texas, according to Viral Hog. It was captured on camera by another passenger on Mike’s bus, the guy you can hear later in the video saying that he felt he had to record the driver’s awesome gesture so he could show it to the world by sharing it on social media.

The description is also his, and it reads: “Earlier this morning I was on the bus running some errands and suddenly we stopped. That’s when the San Antonio Via operator Mike, got out of his driver's seat to help unbuckle this nice disabled lady from her seat belt. He then assisted the nice lady off the bus.”

“Just when I thought he was going to re-enter the bus so he can continue his route, he immediately took initiative and decided to help the lady and her two young sons across the busy and dangerous street of Military Drive during some very intimidating traffic, and then across another small little intersection until they reached their bus stop destination,” the caption adds.

Indeed, Mike is seen pushing the woman’s wheelchair across the street through busy traffic, while he’s also keeping an eye on her 2 children. At one point, one of them is almost hit by a car, even though they’re crossing at the green light. Mike stops and makes sure the kid is alright, and then starts walking again, this time making sure the children keep closer to him and their mother.

As Mike gets back on the bus, after dropping the trio at the other bus station, the guy filming him shakes his hand and congratulates him for being such an awesome human being. Mike’s reply is proof of just how awesome he is: he didn’t do anything other people wouldn’t have done. Except that they didn’t. He was the only one to do it.
