After revealing the Encore GX, it’s the turn of the Enclave to enter 2020 in style. The seven-seat SUV from Buick features a new visual package called Sport Touring, which includes a more aggressive grille up front and 20-inch aluminum wheels with a bright machined finish and Satin Graphite pockets.
As ever, the suck-squeeze-bang-blow comes courtesy of a 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6 which develops 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission sends the goodies from the crankshaft to the wheels, the Hydra-Matic 9T65 that Ford famously refused to utilize in front- and all-wheel-drive vehicles such as the Edge.
“Buyers are choosing the Enclave because it is everything they want in a premium crossover with its distinct styling, quality, and driving dynamics,” said Phil Brook, vice president of marketing. Other newities for the 2020 model year include massaging seats and the 8.0-inch multimedia system.
Just like the massaging seats, connected navigation remains an optional extra. HD Rear Vision Camera, HD Surround Vision, four-way power lumbar seat adjustments, and SiriusXM with 360L are a few other newities. Even the Avenir gets sleeker “a lower panel that matches the rest of the exterior” for 2020. The question is, why couldn’t Buick do that at launch?
Typical of General Motors, the mid-size SUV doesn’t come cheap even though the vehicle architecture is shared with the Chevrolet Traverse. No less than $41,195 is the starting price for the entry-level model with front-wheel drive, including destination charge freight. Arriving at dealerships in the U.S. this summer, the Enclave also welcomes three new exterior colors.
These are Dark Moon Blue Metallic, Champagne Gold Metallic, and an Avenir-exclusive option called Rich Garnet Metallic.
On that note, the Enclave is one of the best-selling Buick models in the United States of America. No fewer than 49,647 examples were sold in 2018, up from 48,564 in the previous year. Sales are even better so far this year as more and more customers trade cars for luxed-up utility vehicles.
