Technologies like direct fuel injection and variable valve timing have been implanted into the GS's powerplant, that now delivers approximately 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. The 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint is done in under seven seconds, which is pretty impressive for a 3710 lb (1683 kg) sedan.
“We’ve been combining direct injection and variable valve timing with boosted engines since 2006, and there’s no question the Regal GS turbo has the responsiveness and acceleration of a 3.5L V6, while delivering the fuel economy of a 2.0L four,” said Mike Anderson, Ecotec global chief engineer and program manager.
Four-wheel independent system with HiPerStrut front suspension complete with Buick's Interactive Drive Control are offered as standard features and grant access to three handling presets, standard, sport or GS, which affect the steering sensitivity and the suspension settings. The system provides for greater vehicle stability and improved driving safety. The "GS" mode gives optimum suspension stiffness and steering response for a dynamic driving experience. The "Standard" or default setting is for a more comfortable all-around use, while the "Sport" mode is somewhere in between the two.
The GS has 12-way adjustable, heated driver and passenger seats, with leather upholstery, Harmon/Kardon sound system with nine speakers and Bluetooth connectivity.
The Regal GS was made public yesterday at a consumer event in Miami with sales expected to begin in mid-2011. Pricing has not yet been announced.
