It seems that General Motors has decided to allow Buick to spell “Performance” again, with the latter set to revive the Grand National, T-Type and GNX designations, which were famous in the ‘80s.
All three will be used for sedan models, which will be based on GM’s new rear-wheel drive Alpha platform that has already made its debut on the Cadillac ATS. Following the patters established in the 1980s, the T-Type and the Grand National will use similar powertrain and suspension settings, but the first will be offered in multiple colors, while the latter will only come in black.
As for the engine that will be use by the T-Type and the Grand National, neither the 2.0-liter turbocharged four, nor the naturally-aspirated 3.6-liter V6 don’t make perfect sense, so GM is expected to use its rumored upcoming twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 unit.
As for the two’s big brother, the GNX, this could use a V8 - it has already been confirm that the Alpha platform can use a V8, so the car could get GM’s new LT1 V8, albeit in a downtuned version.
