More than three years after the concept was exhibited at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show, Buick has finally revealed how the Envision mid-size crossover looks like and a handful of specs. To be offered only on the Chinese market, the all-new model sits in-between the Encore and Enclave.
Intended as a rival for the Volkswagen Tiguan, Audi Q5 and BMW X3, the Envision will be marketed in the Asian country as a high-end crossover. Although the carmaker's Chinese arm hasn't revealed too many details about the new family member, Buick has declared only recently that "the Envision adopts a new-generation powertrain along with GM’s new all-wheel-drive technology. The fuel-saving start/stop technology will come standard across the line."
Slated to be officially unveiled later this year and go on sale in the fourth quarter, a Buick official revealed to auto163 that the Buick Envision boasts a 2,750-mm wheelbase, 4,667-mm length and 1,839-mm width. A 2-liter twin-scroll turbo'd four-pot is shoehorned under the bonnet, rated at 260 horsepower and 260 lb-ft (353 Nm) of torque. Coupled to a six-speed automatic, drive is sent to the front wheels on the base model, while more demanding customers can opt for an all-wheel drive system.
Besides the modern Buick front grille, 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels, xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights, the exterior of the Buick Enclave isn't much to talk about to be sincere. Maybe the lack of zest in terms of exterior styling is counterbalanced by the high level of cabin customization. While the boot is expected to swallow at least 420 liters of luggage, that figure can be upped by reclining the rear seats into the floor of the vehicle.
An asymmetrical dashboard design is on the menu, along with an IntelliLink infotainment system controlled via an 8-inch color touchscreen. A Bose stereo system and an USB slot are also offered, along with a hands-free liftgate system, auto dimming rearview mirror, rear parking sensors, automatic lights and wipers, ESC and an HSA ramp assist system.
No word on pricing just yet, but we don't expect the Buick Envision to be cheap and cheerful.
