The new Encore luxury crossover was a sales success in its first full year on the market, Buick said last week, reporting that it has delivered 97,311 examples of the vehicle globally, which accounts for nearly ten percent of the company’s total sales in 2013.
Encore retails sales in the United States, where the manufacturer saw an overall 13.9 percent increase last year, reached 31,046 units. This means that about 15 percent of Buicks sold in America last year were Encores.

"Right out of the gate, demand for the Encore was high," said Tony DiSalle, vice president of Buick marketing. "It accounted for most of the segment's growth last year and that's because it offers the right safety, technology, and features in the right-sized vehicle for many customers."

Priced from $24,160 in the US, the Buick Encore was ranked highest in the subcompact CUV segment in the 2013 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study and was named the winner of Kelley Blue Book's 2014 5-Year Cost to Own awards in the Luxury Compact SUV/Crossover category.

"The small SUV segment looks like the next hot spot in the new-car market," said Karl Brauer, senior analyst for Kelley Blue Book. "The combination of functionality and fuel efficiency offered by models like the Buick Encore makes them a compelling value equation for consumers. We're seeing rising research activity in these models from users of KBB.com, and we expect sales to grow in the coming months and years."

With help from the Encore, Buick set its new global sales record in 2013, with a 1,032,056 examples delivered, about 80 percent of them in China. The previous sales record goes back to 1984, when the manufacturer sold 1,003,345 vehicles, most of them in the United States of America.
