Buick’s new semi-luxurious compact crossover, the Encore, will go on sale in China near the end of the year, in November. With the Regal and LaCrosse already on the market, this will be Buick’s third addition to its Chinese range.
It will be powered by an Opel-sourced turbocharged 1.4-liter engine with 140hp. It is expected to cost just over 200,000yuan (€25,300/$31,600) and it’s expected to significantly contribute to GM’s sales in 2013, when their expectations will increase from the 1.3-million vehicles they plan to sell this year.
Like all manufacturers, GM too will try to further consolidate its position in China (and Asia generally speaking), and with the Buick Encore, they plan to steal some buyers away from the very capable (but slightly bland) Audi Q5.
