“Today’s Buick lineup is full of technologies that help make our owners safer and more secure than they would be without them,” he said. “With the introduction of high-speed OnStar 4G LTE, Buick owners will be better connected as well.”
DiSalle added that all 2015 models equipped with OnStar 4G LTE will also get Buick AppShop, through which drivers can download apps and stream Internet radio playlist.
All 2016 model year Buicks will come standard with OnStar 4G LTE, the manufacturer added.
“We are focused on constantly improving the OnStar service so that the system continues to remain a trusted value-add for GM customers,” said Terry Inch, chief operating officer, OnStar. “4G LTE will enable the most powerful OnStar connection ever.”
As a reminder, the new OnStar 4G LTE will be introduced on the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette, Impala, Malibu and Volt. The technology will also make it into the 2015 Equinox, Silverado, Silverado HD, Spark, Spark EV and Trax (Canada only) at a later date.
Moving over to Cadillac, the luxury brand will offer the connectivity system on all 2015 models in the second half of 2014, including the brand new 2015 ATS Coupe.
The OnStar 4G LTE claims to be one of the fastest in-vehicle applications yet and will allow drivers and passenger to gain access to high-speed, wireless internet through a Wi-Fi hotspot that can accommodate up to seven devices, including smartphones, laptops and tablets.
