Bugatti Veyron Test Mules Spied on Nurburgring, Hint at Hybrid Sucessor

The Nurburgring sees all sorts of extreme machines flying around it every day, but when Bugatti comes to the lapping game, you know you’re having a special day. Last week, we showed you a White Veyron test mule wearing a strange aluminum structure on top of its engine. Now the mule is back and it’s got an nonidentical twin to play with.

The aluminum skeleton “replacing” the engine hood on the White Veyron has a very complex structure. Its presence, together with witness reports indicating a rather muted soundtrack come to confirm the common sense guess that Bugatti is preparing for a hybrid future. The details are obviously scarce at the moment, so we’ll have to keep an eye on this prototype in order to find out more.

Nonetheless, it appears that there could be a closer Veyron future, as indicated by the second mule lapping the ‘Ring. The black test car seems to come with beefier fenders that go with its wider tracks. The wheels are also new and they could be made of carbon fiber.

Pay close attention to the rear apron and you will notice an extra hole cut on the left side to serve a radiator behind the bumper. Chassis upgrades, together with what looks to be an engine tweak could point out to an even more potent Veyron.

Perhaps Bugatti has decided to reply to the Koenigsegg One:1 or maybe they are just pushing the limits further.

PS: Still, nothing explains why the two people in the White Veyron look like LEGO men.
