For us, replicas are a bit like boxing matches - while inside the ring, these wannabe contraptions are our enemies, but outside the ropes we can't help but notice that a few of them sport surprising parts. Of course, the fact that certain replicas have received hours and hours of quality work only makes the story even sadder and we're here to show you the latest example of this.
We're talking about a Bugatti Veyron replica that recently showed up on Craigslist. From the very beginning, the ad is all about bragging: "2012 Bugatti Veyron Replica professionally built with no expenses spared. This particular vehicle is a one of kind replica with a 99.9% identical matching replication both inside and out."

When a replica has a price of $120,000 (EUR95,825 at the current exchange rates), one may be curious about it.

Judging from what we can see in the photos, which are few and of modest resolution, the decals on the replica appear to hide the imperfections. The White and Red car in the first image seems to also be shown without the decals in another photo.

Nonetheless, the cabin appears to be of surprising accuracy. Sure, you can still tell the difference, but this is one of the best Veyron replica interiors we've seen.

As for the tech side, this doesn't exactly spell "top notch". The starting point was a 2001 Mercury chassis, most likely a Cougar (that's a Ford Cougar for all you reading this over in Europe).

As far as the details go, this replica uses a two-liter unit turbocharged to 400 hp and sends its power to the road using all four wheels. 20-inch wheels, that is.

What about the actual Veyron?

Bugatti was currently spied testing the Veyron successor, with a test mule wearing hybrid hardware being spotted. Tentatively called Chiron, the hypercar that will take over from the Veyron should treat its driver with about 1,500 hp, which will be achieved via a combination of the W16 quad-turbocharged engine (a reworked version) and electric propulsion.

While the vehicle itself will go on a diet, the electric side of the equation will add weight, so we'll have to see how the engineers manage to keep a balance.

Returning to the replica we're talking about, we don't see why anybody would pay that kind of money for a fake piece of automobile, when you could acquire a used supercar for the budget.
