The Chiron may be the new yardstick, but the Veyron made a bigger splash when it arrived on the market in 2005. The thing with hypercars is that they are far from being perfect cars. That’s why even the awe-inspiring Veyron can be subjected to a recall. Or three recalls, to be more specific.
The first recall announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on behalf of the French automaker comprises 72 units of the Veyron. The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 (manufactured from October 3, 2006, through January 17, 2010) and the targa top Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport (built from September 29, 2009, through June 30, 2010) are affected. The problem with these cars is that the fuel gauge may indicate that there’s more fuel in the tank than there actually is. A software reflash will remedy the issue.

Moving on to the second of three recalls, Bugatti is calling back 87 units of the Veyron 16.4 produced from March 10, 2006, to March 9, 2012, Veyron Grand Sport from September 29, 2009, to October 14, 2014, and Veyron Super Sport built from February 18, 2011, to August 17, 2012. According to Bugatti, the jacking plates are prone to separate from the vehicle while driving. Imagine that happening at 267.7 mph (430.9 km/h). As such, the underbody aluminum jacking plates will be riveted and sealed, free of charge for the owner.

Last but certainly not least, 13 examples of the Veyron 16.4 built from October 3, 2006, to December 22, 2006, are recalled over a rather peculiar problem. Bugatti claims that “the positive battery cable and the connection to the alternator may corrode,” resulting in the overheating of the positive cable. Replacing the positive cable and the alternator should solve this worriment.

At the end of the day, these campaigns aren’t breaking the norm for the hypercar genre. You may remember that the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder and Ferrari LaFerrari have been recalled for a multitude of reasons. Now let's wait and see if the Chiron will be recalled as well, preferably not after it goes out of production.
