"Les Legendes de Bugatti," which translates to Bugatti Legends in English, is the name given to a series of ultra exclusive Veyron hypercars. Up to this point, five different models have taken our breath away, but the final model in the line is downright eye candy with a touch of automotive history.
On August 15th, concomitantly with this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance kick off, the French hypercar manufacturer will present this latest, most extravagant Veyron model in the flesh. Its exterior is heavily inspired by the old school Type 41 Royale from the 1930s. Up front there's polished aluminum finished with a clear coating. The same material and finish is used for the side panels, side mirror housings, door handles, passenger doors and wings.
An elegant chromatic contrast is achieved by using dark-blue carbon fiber for the vehicle's rear, A-pillar trims and sill panels. Even the diamond-cut, color-coordinated wheels are harking back to the eight-spoke design Ettore Bugatti created for his Type 35 racing car. If you take out all the plates and letterings that tell you this is a very special Veyron, you're left with Ettore's signature engraved into the silver painted fuel filler cap and the oil cap.
As for the interior, the Ettore Bugatti Legend special edition Veyron employs traditional calf leather finished in a brown hue called Brun Cavalier. Many components that come in contact with the driver's or passenger's hands are jacketed in natural cordovan leather. By the way, the company tells that the tanning process alone takes six months. The detail that rounds up the cabin design nicely is a relief of the dancing elephant, along with door sills bearing Ettore's portrait and signature.
Based on the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse, the Ettore Bugatti Legend boasts with an engine that uses 37.2 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (6,32 U.S. mpg) in urban areas, producing 539 grams of CO2 per kilometer driven on the combined cycle. That monster is an 8-liter quad-turbo W16 mill that churns out 1,200 horsepower and 1,500 Nm (1,106 lb-ft) of torque.
Thanks to the dual-clutch transmission and a Haldex all-wheel drive system, this car rockets to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 2.6 seconds. Maximum speed? 254 miles per hour (408.84 km/h). Ladies and gents, say hello to the fastest production roadster ever. Speaking of which, only 15 Bugatti Veyrons are still for sale, so you'd better hurry up if you want a brand spanking new example of this fast and rarefied breed.
