Bugatti today announced that the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport model we have seen at last year's Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California is about to enter production as a limited 150-unit edition. The car will be assembled by hand at Bugatti's headquarters in Molsheim, Alsace and will be delivered to first buyers in July.
50 units of the whole series will be exclusively available to existing Bugatti customers, the company said in a release and so far, no less than 30 models have already been ordered.
Obviously, the car comes equipped with numerous high-end features and lots of parts made of carbon fiber, supposed to reduce the overall weight of the car and, at the same time, improve the final engine performance figures. For example, with the roof closed, the car is capable of reaching a maximum speed of 407 km/h (252.9 mph) while, with the roof off, it "only" achieves 360 km/h (223.7 mph).
Other feature highlights include carbon fiber-made doors, two redesigned air intakes, moisture-resistant, backstitched leather, reversing camera with 2.7-inch LCD screen in the rear mirror and “Puccini” sound system with digital signal processor.
“When I had the chance to test-drive the new Grand Sport for the first time myself, I was filled with excitement, as soon I shifted into second gear, I knew this was a completely different car. I could immediately feel the difference. Even with the roof still on, in the tips of my fingers and at the base of my spine everything was more present, more intimate. More precise with less understeer, almost as if you had taken away some filters from the suspension and the steering," said Pierre Henri Raphanel, Bugatti’s Pilot official.
Unfortunately, buying one of these is probably impossible for many of you, unless you're Richie Rich of course, because Bugatti sells the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport for no less than 1.4 million euros each.
