Bugatti Sued by Customer for $1.55M Refund

If some think that getting $1.55 million to pay for a Bugatti was a problem, how does paying the full sum in advance and never getting the car sound? That is what happened to a Bugatti customer from Canada, who has now filed a suit against the manufacturer over failure to deliver.

Well, the story goes like this: the customer, Barry Zekelman, goes to a Bugatti dealership in Troy, Michigan in early September 2008. On September 5, 2008, he agrees to purchase a 2009 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Coupe in Italian Red paintjob. Within five days, Zekelman made an advance payment of $427,935. According to Courthousenews via jalopnik, three months later, the Canadian resident wired the remaining $1,125,419 into Bugatti Troy’s bank account.

Furthermore, Bugatti Troy forwarded the wired funds to Bugatti USA, that also forwarded them to Bugatti S.A.S. Unfortunately, on December 23, 2008, Zekelman got an email informing him that his request could not be fulfilled. Bugatti Troy offered him a 2008 Bugatti instead, but Zekelman refused to accept.

Since Bugatti S.A.S had stopped production on any 2009 models, Zekelman demanded a refund. Nothing too out of this world so far... except for the fact that Zekelman still hasn’t received his money back. And it’s not like we’re talking about a negligible amount...

Therefore, as we said, the angry customer decided to settle this the legal way. The lawsuit concerns six counts, which he says Bugatti violated, including breaching of contract, violation of the Michigan consumer protection act, recission count, unjust enrichment, conversion and claim and delivery. Therefore, he is now asking for a full refund and all court and lawyer fees.
