Have you always wanted to have a car that is as fast and as powerful as a Veyron but with four doors, four seats, and room in the boot for a dog? Well, we have good news for you, as Bugatti will make your wildest dreams come true with a production version of the 16C Galibier Concept.
According to a recent Bloomberg article, the top execs of the Volkswagen Group have deemed the idea of such a car to be viable enough to actually put it into production.
The W16 engine will go under the bonnet, unlike in the Veyron, and the new car will have about 1,000 horsepower to play the 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) game, or just about any speed-related game it wants. The big change from the Veyron’s mill is that it will swap the quad-turbo configuration for a two-stage supercharger system, which should provide more torque and a less jerky drive that is more hyperluxury saloon.
“Four-door vehicles open up a whole new market for exotic- car makers,” said Kevin Tynan, an automotive analyst for Bloomberg Industries. “It makes good sense for Bugatti to get in there. Those cars are loyal to design language and brand heritage.”
Bloomberg’s undisclosed source says that the car will be launched in 2013 or 2014 and will come with a €1 million price tag (about $1,4 million at the current exchange rate). Needless to say, it will also be exclusive, as Bugatti only makes 50 cars a year at the moment.
We can’t know for sure what it will be called, but the name Galibier is taken from one of France’s most difficult Alpine passes featured in the Tour de France bicycle.
