Often referred to as "Bordeaux", Bugatti Galibier 16C is the French manufacturer's new model that will go on sale sometime in 2013. At least, this is the unofficial date to see this happening as Bugatti is somewhat reticent when it comes to the new model. However, more details are expected to be revealed this week as the concept will be officially showcased to the public and to the press at the Frankfurt Auto Show in Germany.
Here are the first photos with the Galibier 16C, the same model we've seen in those leaked brochures addressed to a selected number of people chosen to preview the new Bugatti.
It is rumored that the Galibier 16C will be powered by the same W16 engine available on the Veyron but with twin mechanical superchargers replacing the four turbochargers currently available on the car. Performance figures are unavailable, but technical chief Wolfgang Schreiber said the car will "be the world’s fastest, highest accelerating and powerful four-door," according to autocar.co.uk. The final engine output is believed to go around 800 bhp.
Early rumors are pointing to an 8-speed torque convertor automatic transmission that would contribute to the performance of the car and, at the same time, ensure a smooth ride for all passengers.
There will be several lightweight materials used on the car, including aluminum door and wings and carbon-fiber front end. Bugatti is reportedly aiming to make the Galibier the lightest car in the class but, once again, specific figures are yet to be disclosed.
Inside, the car is extremely luxurious, with shiny wood parts contributing to the stylish interior. Power and speed dials are mounted on the center of the dashboard, with the clock manufactured by Swiss maker Parmigiani. The dashboard indicator is pointing to a maximum speed of 390km/h (242mph) but this is only a concept so things might be a bit different on the production version.
Bugatti hasn't decided whether to mass produce the car, with officials close to the company claiming the French manufacturer will make a conclusion next spring after presenting the Galibier at various events around the world. However, in case it would reach production, the car would be extremely expensive: a price of 1 million euros is very likely.
