The Nissan GT-R has been the go-to custom drag racer to take on supercars of the Goliath variety. However, today we're going to take the hyphen out. That's right, it's the AMG GT R, one that's been modified by the legendary technicians at Renntech.
We're not going to bore you with the history of Renntech, but you should at least take a few moments to watch what their E63 sedan is capable of. Making a drag-racing AMG is about so much more than just raising the pressure on the turbos. The same 4-liter is in this bad boy, plus the letter R is sitting on the rump. And everybody knows cool letters can make you faster.

Anyway, the AMG needs all the help it can get because it's taking on a Bugatti Chiron. We don't know if this drag race needs to be taken seriously because it's up against the highest horsepower production car. Even without the rumored hybrid tech, the Bugatti Chiron was able to deliver 1,500 HP from its W16 fire-breathing engine. And if that number doesn't impress, consider the fact that it costs upwards of $2,500,000 while the AMG GT R is only $160,000. That kind of difference makes you wonder if the Mercedes driver might feel lucky to be allowed to race a Bugatti.

Renntech tuning ups the horsepower of the AMG to around 760, but that's still only half of what the Bugatti makes. Fortunately, the race setup is a little bit of an equalizer. The gentlemen's agreement is that both cars cross the line at 50 km/h or 31mph and only then start racing. But that kind of deletes the Chiron's weight problem and allows it to reach as high as 328 km/h by the end of the runway, a speed which most cars can't reach at all.

Perhaps a more fitting rival for the GT R is the modified Porsche 911 Turbo, which in this case puts down 800 horsepower.
