Buemi, Not in a Hurry for 2009 Seat

Sebastien Buemi hopes he will be enjoying the Christmas holidays as an official Formula 1 drivers. While waiting for a confirmation of his 2009 racing seat with Toro Rosso, the Swiss driver insisted that he has improved his racing greatly in the past few weeks and he's on top of his form following another 2 days of testing at the Jerez circuit.

“It was really good for me to be at the top of the list, especially in front of my teammates or, to be precise, in front of the two other contenders for a cockpit. So I was very satisfied and hopefully they'll make a positive decision for me in the near future. I am quite confident at the moment as I did all I could. All I can do now is wait. But as long as there isn't a decision, I don't want to think about it too much. It would be good to know before Christmas, but I am not in a hurry. I feel very confident based on my test results, so I'll await the team's decision.,” said Buemi following another series of testing at the Spanish track.

Following a fulfilling testing meeting with Toro Rosso last week – when he outpaced both Toro Rosso teammates Sebastien Bourdais and Takuma Sato during the 3 days of testing – Buemi was offered the chance to run some laps for Red Bull Racing this week. However, with RBR's leading driver Mark Webber still recovering from his injury (suffered during the Tasmanian Challenge), Buemi will run the entire 3 days for Red Bull, alongside Sebastien Vettel.

“I will be driving alongside Sebastian Vettel on day two and three of this test, and that promises to be a good lesson for me. I am convinced that it will make me better. At the moment I feel that I am improving day by day, getting used to the car, getting used to the tires - and getting used to Formula One. I am really thankful to Red Bull for giving me that opportunity and I'll do my best not to disappoint them,” added Buemi.

The Swiss driver topped the timing sheets in the first session of testing at the Jerez circuit on Monday, setting the fastest time of the 5 test drivers on track. He outpaced Nick Heidfeld by more than one-and-a-half second despite running the fewest number of laps from the entire pack of drivers.
