Buemi Gets New Mechanic, Trainer for 2011

Swiss racer Sebastien Buemi is yet to be confirmed as an official 2011 driver for Scuderia Toro Rosso, but that announcement is practically imminent from the Faenza based squad. Nevertheless, given the warnings he received recently from Red Bull's motorsport advisor Helmut Marko, the 22-year old has every reason to believe that his stay at STR won't last for much longer unless he makes a great impact in 2011.

With that thought in mind, Buemi decided to do some changes in terms of his preparation for the upcoming campaign. And while admitting he has no excuses for his struggling form in 2010, he believes switching to a new mechanic and a new physical trainer might turn things on the right path this year.

I make no excuses. At the most there are explanations, but this analysis stay inside the team,” said Buemi in a recent interview with Swiss newspaper Blick.

But I know why it happened and there is a lot to talk about with the mechanics and the engineers. And now I have a new chief mechanic. It's not the solution but just one of the things I had to fix. I will also change my physiotherapist.”

My current trainer, an Italian, gave me too little mental support. Formula one is not just about fitness and driving and your physio needs to do more than hold your helmet and drink bottle,” he added. It was recently confirmed by his team that 45-year-old Helmut Fink, who used to work with Sauber's Nick Heidfeld, will take over the physio responsibilities for Buemi.

Despite the incertitude of securing a 2011 spot, Buemi already thinks about the future, aiming for a campaign with Red Bull in 2012.

You can never be certain. But since 2005 Red Bull have been giving me so much support and I hope to be part of the family for a long time and one day race with Red Bull (Racing),” concluded the Swiss racer.
